The first year of employment for a Next Generation employee is rotational throughout the numerous divisions of National Oilwell Varco and focuses on providing a well-rounded experience in such capacities as sales, marketing, accounting, finance, operations, manufacturing, and information technology. The rotations are customized to align individual backgrounds with business needs. As part of the program curriculum, each Next Gen takes a series of training classes to further enhance business acumen. At the conclusion of the rotational year, the Next Gens are placed in permanent assignments through a Draft process in which each of the business groups actively participate.
